Jo LaRue

Jo LaRue is an emerging Irish artist whose dynamic blend of jazz, retro-pop, and funk marks her as a compelling new voice in Dublin’s music scene. Born and raised in Dublin, Jo’s early exposure to jazz and funk, coupled with her influences—ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Amy Winehouse—have shaped her into a musician with a distinct, soulful sound. Her voice resonates with a warm richness, blending nostalgic influences with her own modern edge. Jo’s lyrical style is conversational yet introspective, often laced with humour, reminiscent of icons like Stevie Nicks and Lily Allen.

A graduate of BIMM Dublin’s Commercial Modern Music program, Jo brings formal training and genre-spanning versatility to her work. Her recent singles, We Don’t Live Here Anymore and Arizona, showcase her sophisticated approach to blending jazz and funk with feel-good retro-pop beats. These tracks, created with the expertise of some of Dublin's top session musicians, mark her debut as a solo artist and provide a snapshot of her unique style—refreshing, vibrant, and distinctly her own.

Jo has become known for her engaging live performances, playing in beloved Dublin venues like The Sugar Club, Workman’s Cellar, and Fibbers, where her magnetic stage presence draws in audiences. Beyond her solo work, she has collaborated with local bands, lending her musicality to the rock group Sheridan and the folk-inspired Blue Luna. Yet, We Don’t Live Here Anymore and the upcoming Arizona, slated for release on December 6th, represent Jo's leap into solo artistry.

Her upcoming track Arizona, inspired by her travels through the Grand Canyon and California, will be accompanied by a music video that visually reflects this journey. Jo LaRue’s fresh blend of soulful jazz, playful retro-pop, and introspective lyricism positions her as a standout in Dublin’s emerging music scene, promising audiences a refreshing new sound and a captivating artist journey.
